MICROBLADING FAQ

IS IT PAINFUL

Before beginning microblading, a highly effective topical anesthetic is used to numb the eyebrow area and help to minimize any discomfort. Each individual will have a different comfort level and experience.  Some say that they only feel pressure applied and others say it's as uncomfortable as threading or tweezing.

IS IT SAFE

Each procedure is done under strict sanitation and sterilization rules according to Niagara region Public Health.  A certified microblading specialist will open a new needle package to each client and will perform the procedure using a sterile, single use blade and pen.

The eyebrow pigments used are Tina Davies X Permablend.  They are 100% safe, high quality pigments that are vegan, cruelty free and gamma ray sterilized.

HOW LONG WILL MICROBLADING LAST

Semi permanent makeup typically lasts up to 2 years.  It will gradually fade over time and retention is based on factors such as lifestyle, sun exposure, skin type (oily, dry, mature/aging) and if any chemical peels are done.  Oily skin tends to fade faster. In order to maintain eyebrows, a touch up is recommended every 12-18 months to keep the shape and colour fresh.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY PROCEDURE

You may fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can see the shape and colour that you are accustomed to, which will help during the brow designing process.  It is preferred that you leave your eyebrows alone for a week and refrain from tweezing, waxing, threading or tinting the hair.

DO NOT tan or have any type of facial 2 weeks before treatment.
DO NOT drink caffeine, alcohol, use drugs or take blood thinners/aspirin/ibuprofen 24 hrs prior to your appointment, as this could cause excessive bleeding and poor pigment deposit.

HOW LONG WILL MY PROCEDURE TAKE

The procedure will last for roughly about two hours.  Please allow a solid two and a half hour window for your appointment, as we don't want to rush and always take necessary steps to ensure our clients are cared for and given the best quality of work.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING MY APPOINTMENT

Microblading is a two step treatment, consisting of an initial procedure and then a touch up four to six weeks after.

During your first appointment, we will do a consultation, take before photos and the procedure will be performed.  Your eyebrows will be custom designed to enhance your features.  The pigment colour will be selected to best match your skin tone and existing hair colour.  Once you are happy with the shape and colour, a topical anesthetic cream will be applied and the procedure will begin shortly after you are numb. The ink will then be removed revealing your beautiful new eyebrows and after photos will be taken.

A touch up appointment is required between 4-8 weeks and will last anywhere between 1 to 2 hours.  Your microblading process is not considered to be complete until the touch up is performed.  It is crucial to have this done, as it is hard to predict how well your skin will retain pigment and this will allow us to make any corrections or fill in areas where the pigment didn't hold during the healing process.

WHAT IS THE HEALING PROCESS LIKE

How you treat your new eyebrows over the next 7 days will ultimately determine its healing, colour retention and final appearance.  Healing time varies for every individual but is generally 2-4 weeks until completely healed.  Right after the procedure, the brow area may appear red and the pigment will appear darker, but rest assured that the colour will fade up to 40% as it heals.  It is normal to experience minimal swelling, irritation and tenderness, but that should subside within 24 hours. During the healing process the area will feel slightly itchy and you will notice slight flaking and scabbing of the skin.  DO NOT pick the scabs.  This could cause pigment loss and scarring.  Once completely healed, always apply a layer of sunscreen on your eyebrows when exposed to the sun.  Sun exposure might cause the pigment to fade away more quickly.
